Group and Private Voice Lessons

Throughout our vocal courses students are taught a wide variety of topics, from vocal warm-ups, breathing exercises, physiology and anatomy of the voice, vocal health, correct posture, vocal placement and projection, audition techniques, stage presence, and working with sound equipment. We also teach basic music reading which produces a more educated singer. We tailor the lessons to fit the needs and desires of the student, from the very beginner to advanced levels, and a variety of styles including pop, Broadway and Musical Theatre, classical, jazz, and others. We pride ourselves on teaching a very healthy style of singing, and do not use any techniques which are abusive to the voice.

Group Voice:

Children between the ages of 3 and 12 begin their vocal training in our Little Mozarts and Choral Ensembles. This program teaches vocal basics in a fun group session. Students learn proper warm-up and breathing exercises, and an introduction to harmony. The groups work on a wide range of musical styles from contemporary Disney songs to vocal classics and historical folk songs. We have 3 different levels to choose from, based on the child’s age.

Little Mozarts (Ages 3 - 4)
Mondays, 4:15 - 5:00 PM

Choral Ensemble I (Ages 5 - 7)
Mondays, 5:00 - 5:45 PM

Choral Ensemble II (Ages 8 - 12)
Mondays, 6:45 - 7:30 PM

Little Mozarts - This group begins by learning the basic elements of singing with simple melodies in ranges that are always age-appropriate. At this time in their development, they learn a great deal through movement, and we incorporate this into each meeting. The kids have a lot of fun while learning, and can sing accurately at an early age, as research supports the fact that a child’s range of tones increases progressively from ages three through five.

Choral Ensemble 1 - Children in this group learn more complex music than the younger group, and begin to learn about stage presence and reading music.

Choral Ensemble 2 - In this class, the students are taught a variety of vocal basics, as described under private lessons below, and are prepared for more advanced ensembles and private lessons.

The schedule for our group lessons runs from September through June. Students do not need to audition to sing in these groups, and may join at anytime.

Private Voice:

Private Voice Lessons are scheduled for 30 to 60 minutes, depending upon the age and skill of the student. In general, a beginning student starts with a shorter lesson, and more advanced students enroll in longer lessons. (Lessons are scheduled once per week.)

Our Private Voice Lessons are open to anyone over the age of 12 years without an audition. Private lessons for younger students are available, but by audition only. Most children cannot work up to the physical demands and personal responsibility required of private voice students. Please call the office if you would like to arrange an audition.
